The Christmas Schooner Soon to Set Sail!

The outstanding Mercury Theater Chicago will navigate into the holiday season with a production that can only be described as the epitome of the Christmas spirit.

“The Christmas Schooner” has delighted Chicago audiences in hundreds of performances at various theaters over the years; Mercury Theater is taking on that role for its second year.

The production is based on the true story of an actual, “Christmas Tree Ship” which sailed in the early 1900’s from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to Chicago.  The ship’s contents (which no doubt you have already deduced!) provided thousands of Christmas trees to German immigrants in order to spread the spirit of Christmas throughout the community.  The above noted photo includes the Captain and two Crew members of the, “Christmas Tree Ship”; you can also see the Christmas trees ready to be sold or given to a soon-to-be excited family (no doubt)!

The production opens this evening, Wednesday, November, 26th, and runs until Sunday, December 28th (Wednesday – Sunday each week).

I have the wonderful pleasure of attending a performance next week, and I will be writing a post all about it!  Please watch for it to be arriving soon at shores of The Chicago Files!

I hope you have a great time at the show! Bringing cargo across any of the Great Lakes is always harrowing and I’m sure they had more than their share of challenges.

Thank you, Brett! Yes, and this particular ship was no exception. I shall be revealing more in the review about the performance. You most definitely have foreshadowed some of its content!! Cher xo 🙂
