The Chicago Files

A CANADIAN EXPAT'S EXPERIENCES AND OBSERVATIONS LIVING IN THE WINDY CITY!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I certainly seem to be on a roll lately with my skyline and skyscraper posts, don’t I? Let’s add this one to the mix.  This is another shot from the Willis Tower (formerly the, “Sears Tower”) on the SkyDeck floor.  This photo is taken from the 103rd floor; a mere 1,343 feet from the ground!  Once again we find Lake Michigan in the background, always creating such a grand and marvelous  backdrop to this architecturally amazing city.  A rather hazy day with the lake and sky blending quite well into one another.  Now, where to next?

One of the double-decker buses (tour bus) has a, “hop on, hop off” stop here; you could go up and take photos, and DH could perhaps stay on the tour and meet up with you later!

Hi Don! Yes, and would you believe it has recently been purchased by another company? No doubt it will be sprouting another name change in about a year or two? My goodness!! Cher xo

  6. Chicago has a great skyline. We took a trip there with some students last October and went up the tower at night. It’s a gorgeous view.

It really does, doesn’t it, David? Oh that must have been spectacular! I cannot even imagine what it must look like at night! You see, truly I am afraid of heights! It took a lot for me to go up there, so being there at night; well, I’m not so sure I could do that! Cher xo

      1. Luckily it was clear when we were there, so we could see for a long ways. I went out in that glass box that’s suspended off the side of the tower for a moment but it was pretty nerve-wracking. 🙂

I’m so glad to hear it was clear when you were there! Oh, I just couldn’t go into the glass box! I saw many people lined up but I couldn’t do it, not even for a second! Well done, David! Cher xo

      3. I might not have if I was by myself, but I was with a group. 🙂 I’m not usually good with nothing but glass between me and over 1000 feet of air. My imagination is too good. 🙂

*LOL* Oh David you made me laugh when I read your comments, because my imagination is like yours! I give you credit for going in there, crowd or crowdless! 😉 Cher xo

  8. This shot brings back memories… the remains of Meigs Field in the background remind me that I am still mad at Mayor Daley for his action in destroying a historic part of the city.

I hear you, John! Not a popular move, was it? And to think what an iconic (and as you said, historic) part of the city it was! Okay, I’m mad too! Cher xo

  9. Thanks for the high viewpoint, we are chicken about going up tall buildings so have never seen these views.

Hilary, I am afraid of heights! I cannot even tell you how much ‘self-coaxing’ it took for me to go up to the skydeck. It’s so high that in the elevator many people (yours truly included) experience ear popping similar to what happens when flying. Cher xo
