I recently discovered that each Thursday, Norm from, “miscellaneousmusingsofamiddleagedmind” hosts a ‘door post’, whereby anyone who wishes to post pictures of unique and interesting doors on their blog can do just that, and link their post to Norm’s post. Norm commented that he thought I should be able to find some interesting doors in Chicago. Well Norm, I took myself on a magical mystery Chicago tour today, and did I find something wonderful!
The GIGANTIC door in the photo above is 14 feet high; yes, I kid you not. Well, funny I would use the word, “kid”, as this door is not a functional door; rather, it is a display of sorts at, “Big Monster Toys Company” here in Chicago. Ah, look who is guarding the toy company with mammoth teeth and googly eyes!
Why, it’s this guy, “Big Monster” himself! I daresay not too many people will get past this green, hairy, scary guy, now, will they? To put the size of the door into perspective, I waited until a couple of people walked by; you’ll see what I mean:
I tried to get a good photo of the door; however, I literally had to stand on the road and watch for traffic in order to get the pictures you see here! Suffice it to say, they were a quick snap and get back on the sidewalk grouping! I attempted to see if there was another door into the building; that is, one without a centurion monster! I couldn’t find anything open to the public. I sure wanted to get past that furry fiend and take a peek inside! Ah Chicago, you are filled with fun!
Finally!! A place for my lamp!

Awesome Cher! Thanks for joining in. The shot with the people walking in front really gives you an idea of perspective. When I was there early last summer it seems our tour guide lied to us when he said it was a residential building and the owner had converted his garage door. It is definitely very unique, good one 🙂

Ah, thank you so much, Norm! Yeay! Yes, I waited until those folks walked by because I could see how big the door was, but I thought perhaps it wasn’t apparent without context. Oh did he? He most definitely is not correct; it is a toy company! Thank you so much, Norm! Cher xo

Ever since your post that mentioned Bob Newhart, I’ve been remembering funny scenes. Like the one when he attended a conference where it had people who were in Mensa. He was talking with this guy who would talk “backwards” and he asked Bob hi name so he could say it backwards. I swear the minute of silence cracked me up! So thank you, Cher, for the looks I get from others when I suddenly chuckle when I remember another scene! 🙂 I wonder if I can find some on YouTube!?

*LOL* Thank you, dear Iris! There is so much here in Chicago; however, I never imagined I’d find a 14 foot door with a fuzzy monster peering out of the window! And you as well; thank you, Iris! Love, Cher xo

Amazing, Cher. The design of the door makes it look like only midgets (kids) can fit through. What is it called….Trompe l’oeil? Glad you got back to the sidewalk safely!!! 🙂 The monster didn’t get you.
